Hi Natalie,

The first thing you need to do is check with the Ohio Fish and Game Commission. I suspect that the Louisiana Red Claw Crawfish which is not native to Ohio is not allowed by Ohio State laws to be introduced in to the local eco system. If they are allowed, you can give Sal a call at 504-838-4889 and he can ship you a 40-lb bag of live crawfish for your pond. Please be advised that the Louisiana Pond crawfish require a clay bottom and are generally raised in the rice paddys in Louisiana. Water temps also effect their reproduction and survival rate. For more information, please see this website:

I have been wondering about hom many crawfish can be raised in my swamp in southwest arkansas. The swamp is about 10 to 12 acres and holds water year round. On average it is about 2 to three feet deep with lots of vegetation such as water grass and variuos water plants cypress trees and so on. I made about five traps last year just to see how i could do and was surprised how many i caught after checking them off and on for several days. If you could give me tips or advice on this i would appreciate it.

Mike,
Try the Crooked Bayou on Central Ave. in downtown Orlando or Jockomo's on Sandlake Road.
We are currently in final construction of our new steak and seafood restaurant and Irish Pub at 25 South Magnolia Ave. in downtown Orlando. We will be serving our own Louisiana crawfish from the Belle River on Tuesdays. Look for the opening at the end of May, 2007. It will be called the Harp & Celt Restaurant and Irish Pub.
Email me a contact phone and when we have our next crawfish boil, we will give you a hollar. Possibly the 29 of May.

As a Katrina transplant to Orlando and a crawfish junkie, I was drooling over your site. Unfortunately, my wife does not eat seafood (weird huh) so ordering 40 pounds of crawfish is not practical for me. You don't happen to have a place in Orlando that has real Louisiana crawfish cooked at retail, do you? It's hard to live in place that just does not understand real seafood preparation.

Hi James,

The crawfish season ends sometime in June and will begin again in December. Give us a call in December and we will fix you up as well as extend the military discount to you and your comrades.

Please be advised, we are hosting the Florida Cracker Oyster Festival in Orlando, Florida October 6, 2007 and are inviting you to attend as our guest. See our website at: http://www.crawfishcoofcentralflainc.com/Florida_Cracker_Oyster_Festival.html

Also, please be our guest at our new restaurant and Irish pub in downtown Orlando. It's called the Harp and Celt Irish Pub and Restaurant. The grand opening is set for May.

James, stay safe and thank you for the great job that you guys are doing over there.

Best regards,

The crawfish processing plants have opened back up and the prices have come down to reasonable levels as of March 31, 2006. One pound on domestic crawfish meat is running between $11.00 and 15.00 per pound. The price of live crawfish has also come down, though it is running about one dollar above last years prices.
Another thing to watch for is the season ending early due to the lack of rain this year. The season could end sometime in May versus June and July from the previous couple of years.
