In a game-changing move for Thailand’s cruise tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has teamed up with StarDream Cruises to introduce the highly anticipated Star Voyager, which set sail on its maiden voyage from Laem Chabang Port on April 22. This marks a significant milestone for the Kingdom, as it becomes the home port for the luxury cruise ship, accommodating approximately 1,940 guests.

The introduction of Star Voyager not only breathes new life into the StarCruises brand but also solidifies Thailand’s rising status as a leading cruise destination in Southeast Asia. After undergoing a US$50 million refurbishment, the ship now offers an unparalleled cruising experience, attracting travelers seeking a touch of elegance and cultural immersion. The Star Voyager is embarking on two exclusive five-night sailings, from April 22-27 and May 7-12, following the Laem Chabang – Ko Samui – Singapore – Laem Chabang route. This provides guests with the unique opportunity to explore the very best of Thailand while enjoying world-class service aboard the luxurious vessel.

Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific, described the launch as a milestone for Thai tourism. “The launch of Star Voyager marks a significant step in our efforts to strengthen Thailand’s tourism and maritime sectors, in line with national policy and the objectives of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025. This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams and partners who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.”

To celebrate this historic launch, TAT hosted a spectacular welcome event at Laem Chabang Port. The festivities included a traditional long-drum procession and a vibrant performance by the renowned Alcazar Cabaret Show Pattaya. Guests aboard these inaugural sailings were also treated to special commemorative Thai souvenirs, marking the occasion as an unforgettable journey.

Onboard, Star Voyager passengers are indulging in curated cultural experiences that highlight Thailand’s rich heritage. Activities such as Bo Sang umbrella painting, herbal sachet (Bunga Rampai) crafting, and classical Thai dance offer an immersive journey into the Kingdom’s artistic traditions. These activities are part of TAT’s “5 Must Do in Thailand” theme, which focuses on Must Taste, Must Try, Must Buy, Must Seek, and Must See, designed to encourage future visits to Thailand and deepen guests’ connection with the country.

Thailand’s cruise sector is experiencing significant growth, with 2024 set to be a landmark year for cruise tourism in the country.According to the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center, the country welcomed 162 cruise ship calls, carrying over 379,000 passengers and generating 1.89 billion Baht in revenue—a remarkable 6.9% increase from the previous year. Major cruise hubs such as Patong Bay, Laem Chabang, Ko Samui, Phuket Deep Sea Port, and Sriracha Port continue to drive the sector’s growth, with visitors primarily arriving from Singapore, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the United States, and Germany.

“We’re excited to homeport the Star Voyager in Bangkok as we introduce the revitalised StarCruises brand in Thailand,” saidMr. Michael Goh, President of StarDream Cruises. “This launch represents a significant step forward in our vision to position Thailand as a cruise hub in Southeast Asia. With this regional deployment, we aim to attract a diverse range of travellers while supporting the country’s growing tourism economy.”
